Abstract

This study identifies the criteria for selecting contractors for construction projects in ‎Sarawak, Malaysia. We used the quantitative research approach and adopted the ‎disproportionate stratified random sampling to collect data from Grade 7 contractors, ‎housing developers, and quantity surveying firms operating within Sarawak. Out of the 336 ‎copies of the questionnaire distributed, only 71 copies of the survey were returned ‎representing 21.13%. We calculated the mean score and relative importance index of all the ‎contractor selection criteria in the questionnaire. It was found that the contractors' ‎management, technical, and financial capabilities are essential in selecting a contractor for ‎a construction project. This study provides a basis for decision making in the selection of ‎the right contractor for any construction project in the Eastern region of Malaysia‎.
