Pages: 49-59

Abstract

Considering the global energy crisis since the last two centuries, heat transfer and improving its process and reducing the losses have become the most important issues of our time. Therefore, improving the heat transfer functioning from the viewpoint of reducing manufacturing costs by using fewer materials or reducing operating costs by reducing energy losses, is of economic and ecological importance. For some economic and ecological reasons, it is important to achieve effective heat transfer in many industries involving a transfer of heat from gas to gas or from gas to liquid. Hence, free convection heat transfer and enhanced thermal efficiency have attracted the attention of many researchers in recent years. The present work studies free convection heat transfer around a cylinder near the adiabatic wall. Modeling results were well consistent with the experimental results, indicating the accuracy of the present modeling process. To optimize heat transfer in the cylinder, vanes of different shapes were placed in the flow path. The shape, size and position of these vanes and their thermal efficiency were other parameters studied in this dissertation.
